About the Center

Founded in 2003, the Center on Law and Security is a non-partisan multidisciplinary research institute at NYU School of Law. We are focused on cultivating an informed dialogue, educating the next generation of leaders, and conducting groundbreaking research on the most important national security, strategic, and legal questions of the post-9/11 era.

The Center engages in innovative research that elevates and advances the public dialogue about national security law and policy issues, and informs the policy-making process by engaging key stakeholders. The Center focuses on key national security law challenges in the second decade after 9/11: the activities and oversight of intelligence services; the law and strategy of counterterrorism; cybersecurity; financial sanctions and economic statecraft; and the security implications of new payment technologies.
